Each year, many seniors are selected to be a teacher’s assistant, more commonly known as being a TA. This job requires organization, student support and overall doing whatever you can do to benefit the staff members you are placed with. At Lake Stevens High School, our TA’s are mainly found in the attendance office, main office and the counseling center.
Senior Addison Keller is a TA in the main office third period, and she expressed how much she enjoys her time there.
“I wanted to get to know the building better and just see the classes and interact with more students and get to know the staff,” Keller said.
Right across from the main office, senior Keegan Brown is an attendance office TA third period. He enjoys the time where he can work on other classes while still helping out both Mrs. Reid’s.
“It’s really fun. You go around collecting notes, giving notes, taking attendance and getting the attendance. It’s awesome and cool and great. It’s a relaxed period, but also doing stuff,” Brown said.
Brown also expressed that he appreciates the down time that comes with being a TA after all of the tasks are done. He believes that it is a perfect environment to get more work done.
“I mean, it’s basically like a free period, a little bit of getting your homework done, having extra time to do your own business. Yeah, I really think it’s a great investment to help with your grades. If you just need, like a period to help with that,” Brown said.
Senior Jenni Sanchez was a TA last semester in the counseling center. She enjoyed her time she had there and all the opportunities she was given. Sanchez recommends being a TA during your senior year.
“Definitely the people, definitely the counselors. They were super nice, welcoming and super fun to talk to,” Sanchez said.
Personally, I have been in the attendance office for both semesters of my senior year, and believe it is the best possible class to take. Everyday is something new and I have learned so much through all the communication. It helps build skill and encourages students to go out of their comfort zone.
