Lake Stevens High School girls golf team came back with many successes along with memorable stories from the Desert Canyon Invitational April 24-26, 2026.
The girls golf team is annually invited to Desert Canyon, a golf course in Orondo, WA, to compete against many teams that they usually don’t get the opportunity to compete against.
The Desert Canyon Invitational gives players the opportunity to compete against a variety of teams and make loads of memories with their peers. Being there is an experience of its own, the Desert Canyon Golf Course offers an amazing golfing experience that is filled with pretty nature while still being a greatly designed course.
The tournament itself is very competitive with over 130 golfers competing. Lake Stevens rose to the occasion by earning a top five spot.
“You play your own score, but at the end of the round, you take the best hole from each player. So I teamed up with my teammate, Kiera, and between our two rounds, we shot an 84 and then a 78 and so we came in fifth place,” senior Kloe Jones said.
Competing isn’t all serious. There are parts that make this experience special and fun while still furthering their skills playing a more difficult course than regular matches.
“It’s a really nice golf course, and it’s a fun tournament because we get golf carts. We don’t get that here,” sophomore Sierra Hackney said.
The top six varsity players spent quality time together on and off of the course. Staying in downtown Leavenworth created many opportunities to connect during down time.
“It’s really fun when we go over the night before and stay in Leavenworth because then we get to go swimming and we hang out in each other’s rooms. It is really fun,” Jones said.

Last year, someone flipped their golf cart, which is a memory all of the golfers still talk about. They also get to stay together in a mini apartment and sneak into the same room to talk all night long and make more memories.
The annual trip is a great engaging opportunity for the team to grow and learn and have a great time with each other.
