This previous spring break was extremely successful for our school’s FCCLA chapter, as LSHS earned ten spots at this year’s nationals competition, being held July 1 through 8 in San Diego, CA. Sophomores and juniors Shelby Lamont, Hannah Parke, Carlos Rojo, Lauren Lindblom, Raquel Leenstra, Jacob Anderson, and Samantha Cote successfully earned their spots at the competition. FCCLA, which stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is a collaborative club which emphasizes helping the community.

“As chapter vice president of recognition, I recognize our members for extraordinary ability of helping out in the chapter or helping out in the community,” junior Hannah Parke said.

Lamont and Parke both got involved their sophomore years, looking for community service and leadership opportunities. Preparation for this competition takes a lot of hard work, and Lamont spends a great deal of time researching, creating, and preparing for their competitive presentations.

Once they reach nationals, the participants will present their speeches and projects and be judged by four judges based on how well they perform.

FCCLA offers more to students than something worth mentioning on a college application.

“I know that I’m a much better speaker than I was before. I know that I shook a lot before. It really helped me get out there and meet new people,” Parke said.

All of that hard work is bound to pay off, and Parke is looking forward to traveling to San Diego and is confident that they will do well.
