Coachella is one of the most enormous music festivals where new and trending artists come and show off their talents. The event takes place annually in Palm Springs, California. Throughout the month of April, the performances are spread out through the second and third weekends of April. Coachella gives multiple artists chances to debut new music that people haven’t heard live.
One of the biggest topics of Coachella every year are the specific artists that perform. This year, 2024 Grammy winning artist Karol G was the first Latina woman to headline in the 27 ongoing years of Coachella. The topic of her being the first Latina woman is very important to a lot due to the representation she gives.
“I think it was very important because it brought a lot of culture to Coachella, and with everything going on currently, it brought a really good message to the world,” senior Koen Knutson said.
Coachella gives people a platform to show off who they are, and this year they had a major artist headline. Sabrina Carpenter, Justin Bieber and Karol G, were the three headliners for the three-day weekend festival. Sabrina Carpenter sang multiple songs from A Man’s Best Friend, her new album, of which half of the songs haven’t ever been heard live. She also brought out multiple people. Weekend one she brought out Will Ferrell, Susan Sarandon, Corey Fogelmanis and Sam Elliott. Weekend two she brought out Madonna and Terry Crews.
“Sabrina was the moment. I think Justin and Sabrina carried it. Her big exit with the whole fountain and how she drove the car out, I thought that was very tea,” junior Danika Tuengel said.
Justin Bieber did the same. His newest album Swag was first heard live this year at Coachella. Justin also brought out multiple famous guests for weekend two that surprised everyone. Justin’s guests included Billie Eilish, SZA, Sexyy Red, Big Sean and The Kid LAROI. On weekend one, he did not bring out anyone but played all of his old songs from when he was younger. While that specific performance was argued about being boring, the performance was enjoyed by a lot of people. Therefore, it became a memorable experience to hear Justin Bieber perform such iconic songs.
“I love Justin Bieber. I thought it was really funny that he put, like, his whole set off the YouTube that was hilarious,” junior Keely Shehan said.
While music artists played amazing sets, there is another major part of Coachella: influencer outfits. One of the main reasons people go to Coachella is to show off their outfits. More people had brand offers and showed off their outfits connected with them. Some major looks this year consisted of Leah Taylor, Charleen Murphy and Olandria Carthen whose looks really showed off a boho country vibe.
“I feel like it was really 2016 this year. There were a lot of, like the fringes and like the brown and like the flower crowns,” Shehan said.
For music fans, there are multiple reasons to go to Coachella: the headliners, the influencers and the outfits. But the true question is, whether or not Coachella is worth it? Coachella still remains one of the most talked about music festivals in the world where music, fashion and culture all come together which makes Coachella worth it to some.
