How does the Unified basketball team feel about all the support? As the second year has ended, the players couldn’t be more ecstatic about all the support during their games. This season was filled with a push for student attendance at the game via posters and online advertisements. Every shout and every hype that the student sections yell out impacted the Unified basketball players for the better.
Many students who attended each game expressed their excitement towards cheering on each player, regardless of which team they played for and how well they did. Unified basketball games are not about the end score but instead are about how fulfilled everyone feels in the gym.
“When anybody scores basically, and everybody just like me goes crazy for both teams,” junior Katie Aitken said.
The Unified basketball players themselves couldn’t agree more with that statement. They can feel the excitement and all the hopes that the student section gives them. When they play basketball, they don’t just play for themselves but for all their friends and students who are cheering them on.
“Ever since I was a little kid, when I went to watch basketball, people would be cheering for the team, and I would be there cheering with them. And I feel like since I’ve been playing now, it’ll be nice to play basketball and everyone to cheer on me,” junior Ben Nye expressed.
The student section loves watching the Unified basketball players have so much energy and passion. The players move with such fierceness and genuine joy in what they are doing on the court that the student section can’t help but cheer for them. For example, when junior player Ben Nye moved hastily across the court to shoot the basketball in the hoop the crowd was with him.
The student section wants to see all the hard work that the players put in. With so much passion being put on display, the students also return the passion in their applause.
“I’ve only actually ever been to one, and I went to the one last week, and it was just such a fun time. Everybody in the crowd is so hype, and you’re just like, really enjoying watching them play. I felt like it was a really fun space. Everybody was cheering anytime anything happened, and it was just super like chill and fun, and still like a competitive space, but still super fun though,” senior Dara Olotu said.
Cheerleaders, like the students, also encourage and uplift the players. They believe Unified basketball plays an important role in the community and allows everyone to enjoy their time. Whether players or students, the cheerleaders offer maximum encouragement with their high energy and chants.
“We just do a lot more exciting cheers and help everyone to get excited,” senior cheerleader Hannah Keith stated.
Although Unified basketball closed out its season, Unified Soccer is around the corner. The support at every Unified sport matters, and the players would love to see you there during spring sports.
