Spring sports

Viking spring sports at the ready As winter sports come to a close, spring sports training is set to start picking up practices and training.

Baseball, golf, soccer, softball, tennis and track seasons are starting to come into view as the registration for these sports has begun. Students looking to sign up can access the list through the LSHS homepage.

For anyone looking to sign up for spring sports, it is required to have an ASB card, medical insurance and a physical completed by a doctor. All of this needs to be done before the Feb. 26 deadline.

Juniors Parks Mickels and Elijah Manansala along with sophomores Lucas Mooring and Colby Flanders have already begun hosting soccer practices after school.

“We want a headstart from all the other teams,” Mooring said. Those interested in signing up for soccer for this upcoming spring season should try to make it to one of these practices. Practices are every Monday and Wednesday directly after school.

Moving towards the baseball and softball side of things, the boys baseball team is looking to make it to the championship after second place finish in districts and a 13-8 season. This year they will be led by new head coach David Benson.

“I am ready for the change in coaching styles,” said junior Aspen Alexander. Coach Benson is bringing a brand new style to coaching with a much more aggressive stance.

The girls softball team had a very successful year with senior Haylee Kim and junior Charli Pugmire making the WESCO teams.The girls team finished 4th overall last season and are determined to win the 2024 championship.

Both the boys and girls tennis teams have many new additions as over 15 sophomores have registered for the teams. People have already begun breaking out their rackets in preparation for this upcoming spring season.

The time to register for these sports is now. Don’t wait because these spots will fill up quickly. Make sure to come out to the games and show your Viking spirit. Let’s bring home some championships.
