As the preseason gets underway, the Lake Stevens Baseball team is ready to get back on the field and see how all the offseason work paid off. With seniors returning, players coming back from injury and younger guys stepping into bigger roles, the Vikings are using the preseason to build chemistry and set the tone for a season with big goals ahead.
With hopes of winning WESCO, making a deep postseason run and reaching state, the Vikings believe their preparation, both mentally and physically, has positioned them to contend from the first game onward.
Senior first baseman Cruz Frothingham, who missed last season due to injury, says the opportunity to be back on the field excites him the most.
“I’m really excited to get out and just see how our team starts this year,” Frothingham said.
Personally, his focus is simple: “Make the most out of the opportunities I get,” Frothingham said.
On the mound, senior pitcher Chad Greaby believes the Vikings’ pitching depth separates them from the rest of the league. Greaby has complete confidence in the Vikings’ pitching staff.
“Even if someone is having an off day, an off day for us is still pretty solid,” Greaby said.
Greaby has made notable adjustments this offseason, particularly developing his cutter and adding more rise to his fastball. His approach remains consistent regardless of the opponent.
“Any given team can win on any given day,” Greaby said. “I try to prepare the same for each team,” Greaby said. His mindset on the mound is straightforward: “Get ahead and stay ahead”.
In the outfield, senior Seth Danielson brings both confidence and composure. Intending to earn all WESCO first-team honors, Danielson emphasized mental growth at the plate.
“Being able to reset after a bad rep and not letting it affect the next one,” Danielson said.
Danielson doesn’t allow for a good pitching staff to affect him; he enters the box with the mindset, “I’m taking him yard,” Danielson said.
Even when hits aren’t falling, Danielson finds ways to contribute through defense and energy in the dugout.
As the preseason unfolds, the Vikings aren’t short on motivation. Whether it’s the excitement of baseball being back, the intensity of rival matchups, or the push to reach state, Lake Stevens is entering the season with purpose and the belief that preparation will translate into wins when it matters most.
