Out of 48 girls on the Cross Country team, two qualified for state. Seniors Reagan Rich and Hallie Carroll represented the Lake Stevens School Cross Country team.
For both girls, it was their last high school cross country state experience, and they made the most out of it. Both girls started preparing early.
“I trained a lot in the off season running in the summer, and in the winter as well,” Rich said. “Then doing a lot of workouts with our team like either hill workouts, thousands like a lot of stuff like that so just running and going to practice and being consistent with that.”
Rich placed 95th out of the 161 girls with a time of 20:01.2. Even though that was not her best time, she pulled through and finished the season strong.
Carroll placed 43th out of the 161 girls from 45 different 4A schools in the state meet.
Carroll was impressed with her time of 19:16.6, and state went the way she wanted even though it was her final race. Carroll has been running cross country since seventh grade at North Lake Middle School.
“It was definitely bittersweet, but I think overall it was really exciting and fun,” Carroll said.
They enjoyed their experience at state and made lasting memories.
