ASB comes up frequently throughout the year—whether it’s fundraisers, sports events, or school dances—but not always clear what ASB means. ASB stands for Associated Student Body, and they represent all students, which is why students vote for the executive officers every year.
“We basically control the entire budget for every sport, every club, every organization. So if anyone is involved in anything school-related, it goes through ASB,” ASB Executive President Ana Joehnk said.
Students cast their votes based on who they want to represent them, and the people they choose make decisions throughout the year that impact everyone at LSHS. There are the core ASB officers, which include the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and public relations officer. There is also a congress made up of all the club presidents and 12 senators who are elected by the school

“It’s pretty important, because they like to make our assemblies happen,” sophomore Tobias Allinson said.
The ASB oversees and participates in all school-wide events, and most people may gloss over this fact. Most of the time, students aren’t aware of ASB’s impact and importance, and the fact that it’s bigger than the assemblies they run.
School dances, post-graduation party, Senior dinner-dance, and award nights, these are only a few of the many events that they run, other than assemblies.
Another significant part of ASB is the school and student involvement; the whole point of these events is improving the experience of the student body. At the end of the day, ASB is trying to provide students with fun so that they feel more connected to the school.
“I think ASB is very important because it allows students to come together and, like, use their ideas, involve people in their school, and create, like, a better school environment in their school traditions,” junior Audrey Amaral said.
The connections that the students make are really important, not just for themselves but for the school environment as a whole. And ASB is this big foundation that lets students connect in this way and thrive.
“ASB is this huge umbrella with all of the different activities underneath. And each group of kids that has their passion finds their passion together,” Student Life & Leadership Coordinator Scott Sifferman said.
While ASB events brighten up the school, not all students feel these effects. And some students aren’t fully sure how to be more involved.
As explained before, ASB strives for student inclusion, so they need students to understand what they can do to be involved. Thankfully, it’s as easy as showing up to a sports game, being engaged at an assembly, going to a play, or dressing up for spirit weeks. Additionally, the class officers are always there to help; they were elected for a reason, and they want to help.
“Your class officers are meant to represent you, so you shouldn’t be afraid to, like, talk to them and tell them what you’re concerned about, because their entire job is to like, to advocate for you,” Joehnk said.
If anyone ever feels disconnected from school, they need to remember it’s EVERYONE’S school. All students have to do is lean in and let the ASB raise them.

Just to get one thing straight, LEADERSHIP is the one planning the assembly not ASB.
No hate, just want the assembly committee in leadership to get the recognition they deserve!!
