Feb. 14 is a well known holiday. Have you ever stopped to think about how Valentine’s Day came about?
Valentine’s Day is named after a priest named Valentine who was executed in the third-century in Rome for marrying couples against the will of the pagan Emperor Claudius II. Soon after, Valentine’s Day turned into much more and has become a traditional holiday.
To celebrate, we do things like giving and receiving gift bags, flowers and maybe a sweet of some sort. Valentine’s Day turned into a day of love. So let’s bring love into the air and find out more about our Lake Stevens love stories.
Seniors Audrey Arostigue and Roman Noyola met through Arostigue’s brother last year during their junior year of high school. Near prom time is when things really sparked up for them. Arostigue was starting to catch feelings for Noyola and she told her brother to put in a good word for her to Noyola. Noyola then asked Arostigue to be his prom date. After prom they went to a party and that’s when she confessed she liked him. They have been dating since June 13th.
“Love means partnership and sticking with each other no matter what, through thick and thin,” Noyola explained.
Seniors Luis Aparicio and Leslie Payamps, met in the 8th grade. They started off as friends, but after high school started Aparicio noticed he hadn’t seen Payamps around much.
One day Aparicio was hanging out with his cousin, and they started to talk about Payamps because they were friends. Aparicio remembered her and they reconnected.
They have been dating for two years now. For Valentine’s Day, they decided to go out to eat and spend a nice relaxing day together.
“Love is more than a feeling,” Aparicio said, and he found that feeling in Payamps.
While every couple’s story is different, one thing remains the same, love. These couples have chosen to love each other.
Centuries ago, Valentine’s was simply a guy who married people off secretly, now it’s a day to remember the love we feel and to celebrate it.
