The Lake Stevens performing arts programs showcases  a variety of talents all across campus. Drama Kids and Musicians practice day after day,  for the one night to be featured in the spotlight  during their performance in the LSHS PAC.

Warm-ups, tuning the instruments, making sure you’re ready to earn your grade and perform to your heart’s content.Like all the other performing arts class Guitar has their concerts too. The most recent performance was on January 9th, 2017 and according to Proff there is another in May.

Speaking of instruments what about another kind of class, like Guitar?

A lot of students participate in the LSHS guitar class taught by the band teacher, Neil Proff, and they have regular performances like the Band and Choir.

Senior, Taylor Bloor a student who attended the concert enjoyed the talent that was showcased. “Most of the students seemed to be having fun and were being confident.” Bloor said.

Guitar is full of talented students, and the class is intended to pursue and work on skill  more.

“It’s a fun class and no prior experience is needed before signing up for guitar,” senior Brea Kuchan said, who is part of the many talented people in the guitar class. “You need to bring in your own guitar though,” Kuchan added.

Instead of Proff providing the music and giving a specific piece to the class, the students have freedom of choice to decide on whichever song they want, to either challenge or make the person performing comfortable in their level.

“I think that it is cool that they get to choose their own songs because they all showed enthusiasm in what they performed,”Bloor said. “I feel like it would be a lot less entertaining for both the students and the audience if they didn’t get to choose what they want to perform.”

Junior, Karina Juarez who’s also in the class added,“I like the variety of songs you get to choose from.”

Guitar, like many instruments, is a skill you need to learn how to develop over time but when mastered can sound like a beautiful piece of art.

The next guitar class performance is May 16, 2017 , so keep an eye and ear out to come and support your fellow Vikings!
