Careers in education are very important to help teach the upcoming generations and help them stay motivated and willing to do school until they graduate. Students at Lake Stevens High School are given opportunities to do internships if teaching is a career they want to pursue. Taking these internship opportunities are a great way to try to get ahead in students’ futures and help with their future goals.
To be a teacher you need to be a student teacher after going through multiple years of college, so it would be beneficial to get a start on it so that you can be more prepared.
“The internships help teach us things like classroom management skills, let us make lesson plans, and teach lessons to the classes. They prepare us to teach and help give us some experience,” junior Makayla Haack said.
Doing these internships can help you learn basic information that you would need to be comfortable standing and trying to work in a classroom, such as confidence in your ability to work with the age range you want to work with. With these internships, you get to pick an age group that you want to work with in the future and go and work with them to try to get more comfortable and develop the classroom management skills you would need for that specific age range.
Future teachers need these classroom experiences. About 67.5 percent of students who do these internships realize this is really what they want to do and continue on to be an actual teacher after graduation.
“I think the internships will have a lot of benefits for my future because I’m going to have some experience working with kids before I become a teacher,” senior Joyanna Deines said.
The students who do these internships get ahead in their future in education and are able to deal with kids better. Like Deines said, she is going to have so many benefits, such as classroom experience and classroom management, compared to the students going into this career in the future that are not doing the internships.
For a student to want to be a teacher and be willing to work with kids to learn and grow is something that is great. It is an extremely important job for people in the future to have. These internships help give current students the opportunity they need to get started working for their futures.
