Worldwide Clash has around 35 million yearly players, this is one of its highest player counts since its release, March 2, 2016. Some might call it a renaissance of “Clash Royale”. The majority of its players are below the age of 25 with a large portion of those being people in high school.
LSHS is filled to the brim with people playing this game. The slim majority opinion is that “Clash Royale” has had a positive net impact on student life at LSHS, allowing for social interaction and healthy competition between friends, as well as providing alternative uses of time away from social media.
The argument that “Clash Royale” is a better alternative to social media like Instagram and TikTok is a rather popular one.
One of the negative aspects of “Clash Royale” is distraction from schoolwork. People spend time playing the game instead of doing homework.
“Personally, … I’ve lost some sleep because I, I’m in a clan, and they take their clan wars very, very seriously,” junior Wyatt Julson said.
Julson is not alone when it comes to losing sleep playing the game.
‘I probably stay up later because I hate losing and then, yeah, I’ll just get in that cycle of can’t end on a loss,” Senior Aiden Ju said.
The competition between friends while playing “Clash Royale” is reportedly a positive use of time.
“I think it impacts student life in a good way because it kind of sparks competition between students, and kind of allows more competitive basis between students,” said junior Cole Fortin.
This idea that “Clash Royale” facilitates bonding is a popular one.
“What I like is, during lunch, you can play with friends, 2 V 2.” senior Shogo Yamashita said.
While some people have played the game for years, LSHS students’ interest in “Clash Royale” have increased in the last two months.
“I just recently had to start over my account, so right now I’m only at 5,000 trophies, okay?” senior Jetty Sears said.
Altogether, the consensus seems to be that despite its shortcomings and addictive properties, ‘Clash Royale’ is providing entertainment and bonding experiences to the students at LSHS.
