Aimel Rai

Aimel Rai, Head Photographer

Junio Aimel Rai’s interest in journalism stemmed from photography; being able to combine her love for writing and her need for a creative outlet led her to journalism, where she could do both. Rai hopes to help people understand the process of journalism from her work. To give them insight into all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into producing stories for the Valhalla. Future goals for Rai after the Valhalla include either Psychology or Film/Media studies. Rai is excited to report on the arts here at LSHS and to discover new ways to write.

YouTube sensation, Emma chamberlain flaunts the necklace of the Patalia royalty at the 2022 Met Gala. After disappearing from the Patiala treasury, the heirloom De Beers diamond wasnt spotted for another 34 years. Certain clothes and jewelry have a cultural significance which is often washed away when people wear them just for aesthetics. In this instance, that necklace had a lot of history and importance behind it. Especially considering that it was stolen from Indian royalty. It’s just wrong and disrespectful for her as an influencer to wear to an event that doesn’t benefit south Asians in any way or highlights them. She wore it for her own benefit which I believe is so disrespectful, junior Fernanda Chavez Hernandez said.

Powerful Women: Celebrate female trailblazers influence throughout history and explore their contributions today. After the feminist push for equal access to education and jobs in 1980, public law was passed by Congress in 1987 establishing March as Womens History Month. It is important to teach womens history to youth in schools because it is important to understand womens journey to where they are now. It is important to understand that often in the past (and in some cases still today) womens voices were silenced and they were treated like property, not people, English teacher Annemarie Gaudin said.

Behind the scenes: Students and chefs alike, work together to make the days menu at the Sno-Isle culinary program. A different menu for lunch is chosen each day, and the students work together to execute it. I really like getting to try the new recipes for the bistro and the cafe, junior Lauren Ruble said.

Absence of the arts: Students work hard to learn the principles of photography. After the retirement of the previous photography teacher, the program transitioned from five to three classes. Its another transition in a year or two full of transitions, current photography teacher Jody Cain said.
