We are Huge in Japan wins Macho Volleyball
Team scrapes together extra help to prepare for WESCO
March 1, 2016
On February 24, LSHS hosted its twelfth annual Macho Volleyball tournament. This year’s tournament was by far the most competitive, intense and attended in the event’s history. With fifteen teams competing to be crowned the winners and move on to the WESCO Macho Volleyball tournament held on March 3, all of the teams gave it their all. After hours of grueling competition, one team came out on top. We are Huge in Japan, composed of seniors Dante Lewis, Jason Cho, Kevin Call, Tyler Morton, Jack Stevens, Bronson Rowe and coaches Dylan Demmert and Marcus Huang beat out 25 to Life by just three points and walked away champions.
While some of the teams put in extra practice outside of school in order to prepare for the tournament, We are Huge in Japan decided to take a more casual approach that many would consider foolish, but seemed to work for them.
“We never practiced, but we obviously didn’t need to. All we did was get our team ready and [get] a name,” senior Kevin Call said.
Although all the players on We are Huge in Japan displayed athletic talent and sportsmanship, a few of the players showed particular talent throughout the night.
“I think out of the entire team, [the] MVP was Bronson [Rowe] because he had some great spikes,” Call said.
With the WESCO tournament on the horizon, We are Huge in Japan has started putting in extra practice and has started taking pointers from another team on campus.
“We’ve been practicing with the Girls’ Volleyball team and scrimmaging with them. They’ve definitely given us a few tips,” Demmert said.
The WESCO tournament will be held at Marysville-Pilchuck High School on March 3 at 6 p.m. Make sure to go and cheer on your fellow Vikings!
