LSHS fall athletes reflect and look back on this season

Vikings head out of the season and leave it all in their last few games

The fall sports season has been going well for our Viking athletes with Boys Football, Girls Soccer, Girls Swimming and Diving and Girls Volleyball all undefeated in their seasons so far. Boys Tennis and Cross Country also have been doing quite well.

This year’s Boys Tennis season has been a bit rocky, but in the end everyone had a great time. The season is now practically over and the boys ended with a record of 6-0-8. The wins against Mariner, Monroe and Cascade were solid, beating them by three or more points.

“Tennis is a lifestyle, and it’s a great sport,” said junior Chad Stevens. Stevens has been playing tennis since freshman year and is a doubles player. He enjoys the sport and along with the rest of the team, he had a great season.

In addition to Boys Tennis, another sport happening this season is Girls Swimming and Dive. With an undefeated record, the Girls Swim team has a 200 meter Free Relay team consisting of Emily Jacobson, Sydnie Chesley, Rylee Johansen and Gabby Marlatt qualified for state and Marlatt also qualified in the 50 meter and 100 meter freestyle.

“The team environment is just really fun and I just love to swim,” sophomore Brittany Billingsley said.

Cross Country is also a fall sport and it’s one that takes some serious dedication and determination. The students in Cross Country run about 30 miles a week and practically run every single day. One of the pluses of running 30 miles a week is being a part of their team. The Cross Country group is almost inseparable; the entire team is like a gigantic family where everyone is cared about.

“I have a lot of friends that are in Cross Country, and it’s all about the family,” junior Cody Lacoursiere says. Students who are looking for a sport to join next fall or want to be a part of something special, Cross Country always has room for more.

LSHS Viking sports are a great option for students if they want to be a part of a team or want something to do after school. Anyone can try-out and winter sports (Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Boys Swimming and Diving, Wrestling) will be happening soon so stay posted for the dates. If playing sports doesn’t sound good there’s always a game to watch and a team to cheer on instead. Some games Viking students might not want to miss are listed below along with team stats, and soon some teams or individual Viking players will be headed to state.
