Last Wednesday, Feb. 19, the annual signing ceremony of LSHS student athletes took place in the Main Gym. This ceremony demonstrates these athletes’ passion, drive and commitment to their respective sports.
Getting recruited is no easy task, for all of these signees have spent years trying to achieve their dreams of playing sports for a college.
Whether it’s playing at the high school, spending time in the gym or competing at high-level clubs, all these athletes have put in the work to reach and represent the college of their choice.
“I have created an intricate meal, lifting and skill work plan that is specifically tailored to my goals,” senior Aspen Alexander said.
Families and friends gathered to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the signing of these athletes.

Four Vikings will be playing college lacrosse. Trevor and Zac Shoopman will be competing in lacrosse at the College of Idaho in Caldwell, Idaho. Brandon Resor committed to the University of Montana to play competitive lacrosse. Landon Paulson signed with the Milwaukee School of Engineering to progress his lacrosse career.
“I have worked very hard over the years, I started playing in sixth grade and I’m still playing now. Now I get to play for another four years,” senior Trevor Shoopman said.
Caitlyn McGranahan will be playing competitive volleyball at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, Maine.
Aspen Alexander committed to Grand Canyon University and is looking forward to four years of collegiate baseball. Luke Morris and Julian Wilson will both be attending EVCC, playing for its baseball team. In addition, Mara Sivley plans on competing at Upper Iowa University for its competitive softball team.
Audrey McKenna will be playing soccer at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa.
Lastly, Kolton Matson decided to stay close to home and signed to play football at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington.
Playing sports has been a lifelong dream for many of these athletes and it shows in the passion they maintain in their work ethic for both athletics and academics, as well as their ability to lead their teams during tough moments.
Committing at signing day is a huge accomplishment for these athletes and it signifies the start of their next chapter as they embark on their collegiate journey.
