The girls basketball team destroyed Mariner high school Wednesday night with a score of 70 to 57.
“Our game last night could’ve been better but we came out with a win. Our defense was not at our best, and our offense seemed a little rushed, but a win’s a win and we’re pretty happy about that,” said senior Emma Smith.
Girls basketball has played strong this season with an overall record of 9-6. The Valhalla caught up with some of the girls to recap this season.
“As a team it’s been a really good season… the seniors have really stepped up this year,” said junior Riley O’Toole.
It’s clear that this season has been filled with many ups and downs, but led to many strengthening and rewarding moments of victory.
“We went through a rough patch of injuries where at one point it was me with a concussion, Emma [Smith] had a hurt wrist, Rocky [Leenstra] sprained her ankle and Laycie [Taylor] was sick for two weeks… this means that on our bench we’ve had to navigate players,” said O’Toole.
As they shared about this season the record proves that they don’t give up without a fight. Throughout this season they have overcome many obstacles, but it has united them more as a team.
“Its awesome, we’re really close. we tell eachother everything… were together all the time, and if we’re not together were sleeping,” said O’Toole
The talent of this team is going to make the end of this season bittersweet.
“Enjoy every moment because it goes by fast. One day you’re a shy freshman looking forward to your next four years and then you blink and you’re a senior getting ready for your senior night. Respect your coaches and enjoy the feeling of playing with teammates each time you step foot on the court because it comes faster than you think,” said Smith.
Congratulations on an unforgettable season ladies the Vikings are proud to support you.
