Associated Student Body, more commonly known as ASB, is a group of student-voted members who take
on the responsibility of creating an unforgettable experience. They create an inclusive environment meant to uplift students and spread kindness within the school. Being kind can improve one’s mind and body, positively impacting their day. Lake Stevens High School ASB members say they aim to spread kindness through school spirit and events they hold.
“ASB has done a really great job being kind and welcoming to all students and making everyone feel like a Viking,” junior Leyla Johnson said.
Sophomore class President Oscar Bates expresses that he believes the purpose of being part of ASB is to be the voice of the student body. He makes sure everyone feels welcomed at our school. Oscar truly thinks that each act of kindness, no matter how small or how big, will make an impact on every single person.
In any event, ASB hosts make sure everyone has a fair opportunity to participate. They focus on creating school spirit, believing it plays a key role in bringing the community together. Over the years it has been noted that students who engage in school spirit have a higher chance of achieving in life and school.
“Like, for example, we have a holiday work party today that anybody is invited to like we really do just want, like our school community to come together and partner with ASB,” said ASB senior executive vice president officer Filly Cesay.
Another big event planned by ASB is our school wide assemblies that brings every class together. During our spirit assemblies, a class spirit competition is performed to encourage each student to show their school and class pride. These high energy environments push every person in their class to engage in activities, fostering a stronger bond within the school.
Not only do they put together events to bring the community together, but they also stay true to their character on a day-to-day basis. ASB members practice kindness every day, and the impact of their influence reflects strongly within the student body.
“If we don’t share kindness with others, others won’t share kindness amongst themselves,” said ASB sophomore class president Oscar Bates.
Overall, the effort and commitment ASB members have put in for Lake Stevens High School is recognized throughout the school. Even if the act of kindness is simple, it moves each of us towards having a better community at school.
