Original musicians and cultural classics take to local stages across the Seattle area
November 30, 2016
Today’s culture is full of rich and diverse music waiting to be discovered. Sophomore Jake Burleigh found some of his favorite bands by simply browsing around on YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.
“My all-time favorite band is Greenday, and I wanted to find more bands like that,” Burleigh said. “I learned that there were a ton of new upcoming bands that rocked. Once you know about one small band then it’s really easy to find other bands.”
There are diverse genres and artists regularly popping up in small venues in local cities.
“Some of my favorite concerts in the Seattle area were Seaway at The Showbox and Knuckle Puck at El Corazon,” Burleigh said, “I love pop punk because it can be fun party music but also can be meaningful and emotional.”
Seattle is always bursting with new music in a variety of styles.
Knuckle Puck: Knuckle puck is an American pop punk band that started in the south suburbs of Chicago. They released their debut album Copacetic in December 2014. Knuckle Puck is not your normal pop punk with its different personality and original lyrics. The band produces a great mix of sound sure to get you drumming along to the beat. Their next showing is in Seattle on October 24 at the El Corazon.
Seaway: Seaway originated in Oakville, Ontario. This band’s pop punk style gives raw and passionate music with real and relatable lyrics. Their album Hoser, released in 2013, is full of dynamic tunes that are driving with some that have more of a softer edge. Seaway’s next showing is in Seattle on October 24th at the El Corazon.

Senior Payton Walles plays Lurch, the butler, and is excited to take part in his seventh show with Village Theatre Kidstage.
“This will be a well-choreographed and sung show and has a great cast,” Walles said, “I enjoy the cast and crew.”
