The Staples storefront sits fairly empty as their closing date approaches. Lake Stevens students haven’t been very upset over Staples leaving but are hopeful for a newer and more youth-oriented store to to replace it. “Something we don’t have that we could use. Not another Starbucks because we already have three of those. Just something useful,” said sophomore Logan Philpott.

Although Lake Stevens has added several businesses like Petco and Dairy Queen, Staples is due to close soon.Though many students aren’t affected by the loss of Staples, the business closing could be an opportunity for more expansion in Lake Stevens.

Senior Lucas Jones isn’t affected by the loss of Staples.

“The only time I ever went to Staples was to get garage sale signs and to get memory cards for my camera,” said Jones. “I don’t ever get school supplies there because they’re so expensive, so I guess I don’t care that it’s closing.”

Once Staples is gone, a new business is going to move into their building. Junior Gavin Reick thinks a giant McDonald’s should take it’s place, but others like sophomore Logan Philpott hope for something more useful. Philpott is also very happy about Lake Stevens’ businesses expanding as a whole.

“I think [the expansion] is great and I think it’ll bring in more people,” said Philpott. “It definitely gives more job opportunities.”
