Students will get to play in the snow this year
Hybrid learning will not be making a return this year for snow days and the students and staff will be getting the day off
With the seasons turning and the cold fronts rolling in we are destined to get some ice and snow. So the possibility of school closure is in the foreseen future, which leaves the decision of reverting back to the hybrid learning system or just letting the students and staff have a snow day. The unexpected days off can be detrimental and create setbacks to teachers’ plans and students’ learning.
“I would prefer to teach online, and that way we can continue to stay on track with the content that we have,” digital design teacher Rob Davis said.
The school still does require the students to make up school days that are missed at the end of the year, which cuts into their summer vacation.
“We’re contractually obligated to add snow days to the end of the school year,” Davis said.
Seniors are the only students who do not care because they graduate before the end of the school year.
“It feels fantastic, I didn’t even know that it was a thing, but I am glad that I don’t have to make them up,” senior Connor White said.
With the possibility of snow days coming up, staff and some students worry about online learning because of their mental health, and they discovered last year that it isn’t always easy having to do school without the comfort of your classmates. With doing school online during these snow days, it could be hard for some students to not have their classmates there to help them.
“I think it was still even really hard on me not seeing my friends. And seeing my teachers who I like really enjoy, like coming in and visiting with every day,” senior Tyler Conley said.
The students and staff seemed to be a little mixed on what they would rather have but online is the one people do want to have. Snow days are still well liked by the students and disliked by the teachers. Rest assured that when the snow starts to fall and the district closes school, students and staff can relax for the day.
