Fresh start: Second semester is here! Before barreling ahead, it’s a good idea to pause and do some reflection about this last semester and how the next one could be improved. The return to full-time in-person learning increased the workload and stress level for many students. “It got ten times harder being back in person,” junior Kelly Nguyen said.

Gender dysphoria: A study conducted by Cedars-Sinai in which adult transgender individuals were surveyed found that most transgender individuals experienced gender dysphoria in their developmental years. Lake Stevens School District Policy 5590 aims to make transgender youth comfortable and safe at school. “Its probably going to ruffle some feathers and cause some waves in our community, and I would say that based on the response to our last policy five years ago, I think our district is ready for this,” counselor Angelia Riebli said.

Coming to Theaters: The Valhalla is creating a recurring column to showcase new movies coming in theaters and recommendations that students might enjoy. As Covid is calming down, movies are slowly resurrecting back to theaters, with October releases such as Dune (2021) and Halloween Kills (2021). “I’m so excited that movies are back in theaters,” sophomore Anjieli Fairbanks said.

Worth the cost? Senior Emily Fenner found a therapist online but felt the treatment wasn’t worth the high price. Fenner had a difficult time finding quality therapy for a sustainable cost. “I think that the amount of money it takes just to see if youre okay is kind of stupid because sometimes you get a really good therapist for a really high cost or a really bad therapist for a really high cost. You never know which one youre gonna end up with. Plus if you dont have that insurance or that backup youre just out of luck. Its really sad,” Fenner said.
