Juniors Shad Schmitt and Ian Ju celebrate as senior Grayson Wheeler and Caiden Ross hug after a dominant 10-1 win over Ferndale.

This year is Lake Stevens’ turn to win

Both boy’s varsity and junior varsity soccer teams are looking like they are going to breeze through the playoffs this year after struggles in the past.

This year both Varsity and JV have started the season hot. They have topped all of the past season’s records. So far, varsity is undefeated with a record of 6-0. They have had hard-fought victories over teams like Squalicum and Newport.
Boys varsity, led by junior Shad Schmitt and senior Grayson Wheeler, has pinned their success on their team relationships.
“Everyone gets along and it’s really like one big family,” said Schmitt.
On the JV side of things, they have exceeded the expectations as they have finally started with a winning record. In years past JV has struggled with getting started. This year, they have had dominant performances like a 10-1 win over Ferndale and a 3-1 win over Shorecrest.
“We are really clicking this year, it’s like a brand new team,” junior Tony Catalan said.
In previous years, the varsity team has struggled with playoffs, winning one or two games at most.
“This year is our year, we’re gonna win it all finally,” sophomore Lucas Mooring said.
Everyone has continued to work hard in practice and is determined to make it through the playoffs this year.
