Out of 48 girls on the Cross Country team, two qualified for state. Seniors Reagan Rich and Hallie Carroll represented the Lake Stevens High School Cross Country team, closing their high school careers on a high note.
For both girls, it was their last chance to compete at the state level, and they made the most of the opportunity. Their journey to state didn’t just start with this season; it was the culmination of years of dedication and hard work. Both athletes committed to rigorous training to prepare for this defining moment.
“I trained a lot in the off season running in the summer, and in the winter as well,” Rich said. “Then doing a lot of workouts with our team like either hill workouts, thousands like a lot of stuff like that so just running and going to practice and being consistent with that.”
Rich placed 95th out of 161 runners in the state meet, finishing with a time of 20:01.2. While it wasn’t her personal best, Rich remained proud of her effort and determination, finishing her high school cross country career with strength and resilience.
Carroll, on the other hand, placed 43rd in the same meet with an impressive time of 19:16.6. The race went as she hoped, marking a strong finish to her journey. Carroll has been part of the cross country community since seventh grade, beginning her career at North Lake Middle School.
“It was definitely bittersweet, but I think overall it was really exciting and fun,” Carroll said, reflecting on her final race.
Both athletes cherished their state experience, emphasizing not just the competition but the memories made along the way. The meet marked the end of their high school cross country careers but highlighted years of growth, perseverance, and the friendships built on and off the course.
Their success and dedication inspire younger runners on the team, showcasing the rewards of hard work and commitment in cross country. As they move forward, Rich and Carroll leave a legacy of perseverance and passion for the sport.
