Spirit days and assemblies are a vital contribution to school spirit for students, a way to give them a break to have fun and socialize with fellow classmates. However, there are always opportunities to make these events better. Allowing our school’s community to voice their opinions on what the spirit themes and assembly events should be can push the students to not only be more involved in them, but also to genuinely enjoy it more.
“I love when everyone dresses up for Spirit Week, but I wish we could see more things with dancing in the assemblies,” senior Emily Hernandez-Vargas said.
Although the LSHS community is already pleased with how the spirit days, themes and assemblies have been going, they have some ideas of their own that they would like to see.
“I would wanna see more band music during the assemblies. The band is really really good, I wanna hear more,” senior Sara Cortez said.
Spirit assemblies are a common favorite among the LSHS community, especially the students. The spirit weeks and assemblies are “part of the Lake Stevens High School experience,” senior Elijah Manansala said. “I like spirit assemblies a lot, especially the one in winter. Even though I don’t participate in the games they are entertaining to watch,” Manasala said.
Assemblies and spirit days prove to be a positive and fun thing that students and staff look forward to. School spirit and pride are one of the priorities, or should be, of high school.
“I think it brings everybody together, it’s fun….. Something fun and different to look forward to, building community. I remember my own spirit days back when I was a student,” teacher Lyla Hippie said.
While the current assemblies and spirit days are definitely a favorite for many, it’s obvious that students and teachers are thinking of ways to make them even more exciting and inclusive. Whether it’s having more music from the band or including different games into the assemblies, the students and staff of LSHS should be able to have a say in the upcoming themes of their own school.
