Do you need help with English or history homework? You can ask Aja Valm, a new paraeducator and tutor at Lake Stevens High School. She is replacing recent retiree Barbara Frederick. Valm is located in the Learning Commons on the third floor of East Hall and is willing to lend a hand.
Valm homeschooled her children until they started going to high school and found that she wanted something to do.
“I actually had somebody from Cavelero reach out to me because there was a position in the Special Education Department that she thought I would be really good for,” Valm said.
She worked in that temporary position until it ended, and she liked the work she was doing, so when she found a position at Lake Stevens High School, she jumped on the opportunity.
She will help “anyone who comes to me and needs some help,” Valm said.
Students who need help with their English and history assignments can work with her on the third floor of the Learning Commons during the day, or on the second floor where she tutors English and history after school until 4:00 in the library. Valm will also stop by classes to help any students struggling with their work.
“She is a good asset to our team, and I’m looking forward to working with her more. She takes a lot of initiative and does her job really well,” Sarah Weber, Student Support Center paraeducator, who works with Mrs. Valm said.
