Huge news out of DECA this week. Senior Kylie Monson, junior Payton Thompson-Vanausdeln, senior Ava McGee, and senior Lily Turner qualified for the international DECA competition with two projects focusing on The Cove’s food and retail operations. The competition will take place in April in Anaheim, California.
With the students working extremely hard on both projects, they began to feel, “Lots of stress and a lot of anxiety about whether it was good enough or if we made any mistakes,” according to Ava McGee, “but then once we certified it, it just felt like accomplishment.”
The projects achieved gold level certification, the highest level possible. To apply for the certification, students must present substantial information that shows how their school-based enterprise (SBE) practices marketing and retail standards. A review committee then examines the information presented to decide the level of certification that has been achieved.
The students are expecting to place, but recognize the honor of having the chance to compete at the international level.
Advisor Karen Morton is cited as an incredible help for the projects. “Mrs. Morton is super helpful and works hard to support our project and guides us to make it the best it can be!” Monson claimed.
