The Met Gala is an annual event that takes place on the first Monday in May. This high fashion event is the main source of revenue for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in Manhattan, New York City. The revenue goes towards the operations of this fashion museum.
This year’s Met Gala raised over 31 million dollars, the most they have ever made.
Why is the Met a Big Deal?

The Met Gala is a big deal to many people because of its pop culture impact. Although the event is to fundraise, guests celebrate celebrity culture, high fashion, art and designers.
Attendees follow a theme throughout the event by selecting a high fashion costume tailored by specific designers.
“I have to watch the Met Gala every year. I love seeing the amazing outfits,” senior Lillian Fitzpatrick said.
Who cares?
Current and future fashion students take huge inspiration from the Met Gala. The funds go to the museum which educates people about fashion and the art made.
“I actually love watching the people in their cool outfits. I take a little bit of inspiration from Emma Chamberlain’s outfit. Her makeup look with the glasses was stunning,” junior Hawa Luhizo said.
