Lake Stevens High School has some creative teachers. Decorations, events, lessons—small but impactful parts of a teacher’s creativity in the classroom. Another component of these small yet creative details is their bathroom passes.
There are some quirky and downright funny bathroom passes around LSHS. They vary from trophies to wakeboards, but why do teachers use these kinds of passes?
“It’s pretty cool to see what they have or like their stories behind it,” senior Levi Dela Rosa said.
Some students surveyed enjoyed the creativity of the passes, while others shared their concerns about sanitation or having to haul large items to the bathrooms.
For instance, students in Andy Knutson’s math classes carry a wakeboard.
“They just whine that it’s so big and they don’t wanna carry it. Like every day do I have to take the pass?” Knutson said.
Students surveyed liked the comical nature of some of them, including math teacher Maranda Wallenberg’s toilet seat.
“Most of them think it is hilarious. Some of them are embarrassed to hold it and now do not want to use the bathroom during class” Wallenberg said.
Occasionally passes go missing, and many teachers label their passes with their room numbers, so they can find their way back. The added information also legitimizes the pass.
“I have the room number on it, so as soon as another teacher sees that they did not in fact steal a toilet seat then they are not in trouble,” said Wallenberg.
Students suggested teachers should continue their creativity with their bathroom passes because it just brings more joy and personality into the classroom.
