Think‌ ‌healthy‌ ‌

So much temptation: Placing these eye-catching unhealthy foods at the front of the store causes unhealthy decisions. These unhealthy foods could be hurting your mental and physical health. “Eating healthy causes good habits with your physical and mental health,” senior Ashtyn Shepard said.

People wonder how healthy foods can benefit daily life. While unhealthy food is tasty and very fun to eat, the death rate of our country will continue to increase if we don’t make a change. According to The Center for Science in the Public Interest, “Unhealthy diet contributes to approximately 678,000 deaths each year in the U.S., due to nutrition and obesity-related diseases.”

What sounds more pleasing, a healthy plate of food or an unhealthy plate of food? When some people look at food, their direct thought goes to the taste of it, but they don’t think about how their brain and stomach will react after they eat.

“Healthy is good because it has a better effect on my health, on my actions, mind/ mindset, and even just doing regular day things,”  said Lake Stevens health and fitness enthusiast senior, Ashtyn Shepherd.

Some people don’t have the convenience or the time to purchase healthy foods and go through meal prepping or eating clean at home. The school offers a variety of meals.

“I see vegetables, meats, chicken, high in protein foods, high in good carbs, and good fats, such as broccoli, carrots, all the good stuff,”  Shepherd said,

Sometimes unhealthy foods are too tasty to give up. The easy to reach processed foods make choosing healthy foods harder for some people. When you walk into a store there is usually a table full of cookies, donuts, etc… not a table full of veggies and fruits, so in reality people are likely to grab the snacks right in front of them, instead of going and searching for something else.

Higher proteins in foods, seeds, really anything but sugary foods, fried foods, and salt is good, but too much salt can become really unhealthy without working out on a daily basis.

“At least 2300 calories a day, and meal prepping in my opinion is the best way to keep track of your diet,” said Shepherd.

When someone wants to be healthy it’s nice to pull information from a variety of sources. A student should also be informed on how many calories they need to be consuming a day. The most typical target is around 2000 calories a day depending on the size of your body.
