During the holiday times, it’s extremely popular to give gifts, as the majority experience receiving presents from their parents or older relatives, a lot of the time it’s hard for the kids to give back.
The festive season brings many emotions, the main one being happiness. Making loved ones feel such strong emotions toward one another is a feeling that everyone should enjoy.
As some high school students have part-time jobs, some spend their money on necessities.
“I have my phone bill and then I have my cat insurance,” senior Nyomi Gavin said.
Fun things like new clothes, shoes, events like concerts or going to the movie theater, or even going out to eat with friends. These are things that high schoolers enjoy spending their money on.
All of these things add up over time. Moving towards the festive season the desire to purchase gifts for loved ones builds up, and the list of the people that need presents becomes longer and longer.
A lot of high school students are in committed relationships. It’s common for one another to buy presents for each other. Whether that be for birthdays, anniversaries or holidays. It’s a tradition that most people follow and is common during the giving season.
During the holidays it can get over the top with spending, to get the best gifts for the people that matter. December is the month where the most amount of money is spent.
“I’d like to keep it under 100 dollars, but might go over,” junior Jack Thompson said.
Buying gifts, or anything at all, for loved ones gives a sense of responsibility. It can show how the next generation is growing up and becoming a part of a bigger society. Going to work and school, balancing relationships and responsibilities, while also having time for extracurriculars and free time can be hard for students, but they make it work.
Gavin spoke about how time management is the key to balancing work, school and friends. She mentioned how she didn’t get her family anything this year but is proud of herself for being able to step up and feel grown up with all of her responsibilities.
Having a job is an important part of life. When reaching the milestone where a student can buy gifts for loved ones and surprise their parents it gives a sense of joy. Not only for the student but also for the parents. They could feel pride and comfort knowing that they helped pave a way in the help of the next generation.
