Some students are getting the dream of spending their time away in a foreign country. Exploring the cities far away from Lake Stevens and experiencing different cultures from tastes, smells and sights during spring break.
Sophomore Sadie Revels will be spending their break in Japan visiting museums, taking cooking classes and going on tours.
“They have some really good food that I know of, so I’m excited to try authentic Japanese food,” Reveles said.
However, some students aren’t traveling that far during spring break. The LSHS band is spending the last three days of break in Pasco competing in a battle of the bands, showing off their dedication, pride and practice. On the first day of their competition, April 11, the classical band will be performing. On April 12, the jazz band will be performing.
“Last year I had the time of my life because I got to spend time with my friends and also listen to a lot of really good music. And, well, I might be biased, but my favorite part of Pasco was winning. So we’re gonna try to do that again this year,” senior Samantha Schurig said.
Other students are staying closer to home in Lake Stevens. During spring break, most people will be enjoying the time off with friends and loved ones. Doing activities like crafts, spring cleaning, going to the gym and getting some much needed relaxing time.
Students aren’t the only ones getting time away from school. Staff are also getting the week off. Some teachers need the time to catch up on grading and getting lesson plans ready for the short period of time left until the end of school.
Not all staff are taking the break to do more work. Some are doing the exact same thing as students, spending time with loved ones and trips like the rest of LSHS.
“I’m gonna watch my kid play baseball and go fishing,” teacher Erick Mahnler said.
Mahler adds that he will not be thinking about school and strictly relaxing; he states that getting breaks is not a main factor but a good benefit of being a teacher.
If staying at home for spring break feels alone, many students are doing the same thing. Relaxing at home can be just as enjoyable.
“I’m staying home baking, watching movies and hanging out with my family. And I’ll probably go to church and hang out with my friends,” sophomore Kloe Cha said.
Most students say to enjoy the time off and to keep school out of the picture. Get outside and enjoy the hopefully nice Washington weather going on walks, playing outdoor games. If some are able, it may be fun to plan day trips like the zoo and exploring Seattle.
One local and accessible idea could be trying to walk the Machias trail or getting some most needed sleep.
Overall, spend the break with loved ones and do activities that are enjoyable.
