As senior year is coming to an end, there are some traditions that will complete the Class of 2025’s last year at Lake Stevens High School.
At the beginning of the year, the first senior tradition, senior sunrise, took place at Davies Beach at 6:00 a.m. This kicked off the beginning of the school year with most of the graduating class in attendance.
Now, the seniors will be ending it in the same way, but this time it will be the senior sunset representing the end of the 2025 senior year.
“I’m not the most excited to have my lifetime routine of school to end, seems like a scary change, but I’m excited for the moments 10 years from now. I’m prepared for after high school, and I have a plan, but I’m not ready for the act of graduating. It seems daunting,” senior Johnny Long said.
The parade will start with seniors meeting at Highland Elementary and then making their way around the lake ending at The Cove in downtown Lake Stevens. The parade is a slow drive around the lake. Most people will be driving their own cars, decorating the outside with Lake Stevens colors and the graduating class. Others will be in the back of trucks and convertibles, shouting and waving to the community.
“Yeah, I’ll probably put Christmas lights around it and then add some funny decorations like inflatables,” Long said.
Like the past years, senior sunset will take place at The Cove in downtown Lake Stevens, ending the parade right in front of Jay’s and The Cove, allowing the seniors to park around the area and hang out with the graduating class in the beach area.
The sunset will take place after June 6 and before graduation. As this is a sunset tradition, the parade will most likely end around 7 o’clock, and then the rest of the night will be spent at The Cove celebrating.
This tradition is loved by the whole community of Lake Stevens. The fire department comes out with the fire truck flashing its lights. The police department will be around The Cove for everyone’s safety. And the family members of graduating Vikings will be celebrating and cheering everyone on.
The Class of 2025 will share this last tradition together at the senior sunset before graduating on June 10, 2025.
“It’s just a bittersweet time with your high school friends before all of us go our separate ways,” senior Casey Mooney said.
