LSHS is a big community of all kinds of people. In the halls, numerous types of personalities and forms of self-expression stroll by. Fashion statements from chunky boots and mini skirts to baggy pants and sambas, the high school has it all.
Some styles may seem similar, but each person makes what they wear their very own. Clothing is a gateway for creativity – a source of self expression. Everyone has their own sense of style and taste. It reflects our values and personalities. It’s a window into knowing what kind of person someone is. For example, wearing bright colors shows that they are outgoing and extroverted. Every article of clothing tells a bit about the person they are on the inside.
“100%, if I’m going for a different vibe, I’ll just put on a different fit, but yeah, it definitely does,” senior Andrei Dizon said.
Inspiration flows in and out of the universe. When shopping for clothes, some look at the mannequins with the newest trends on display while others look to the past.
Senior Parks Mickels says that his style is Y2K, a sort of replica or early 2000s fashion. A lot of his inspiration comes from social media apps like TikTok where the fashion community is growing and constantly flowing with creativity.
Y2K is a very popular style at the moment, the baggy jeans and tiny tops have made a comeback, and most LSHS students can be found in the halls wearing that style.
As prices increase for good pieces of clothing, some can afford high-cost items, others pick the cheaper way, thrifting. The hobby is harder than it seems, hours of sorting through old clothing, but the reward. Outfits that shine through crowds.
“I thrift all my clothes, so I get them from antique stores, or just Goodwill stuff like that,” senior Maya Rockwell said.
Expressing yourself through the clothes that you wear is a challenging task. Looking online is a great way to find inspiration. Social media apps like TikTok, Pinterest or Instagram are great resources to expand your knowledge about fashion.
