Brent Barnes gets fired up on the sidelines while coaching. “The relationships over time that you create with your athletes is the biggest part, the part that you take with you, not the wins and losses and the banners and the trophies,” said Barnes. This mentality comes out while coaching every match and shows in how much passion he has for the sport and the love he has for his athletes.

(Left to right) Luc Violette pushes the rock during the 2016 Youth Olympics; Noel Gasca receives a Gracie Award at the radiostation of her internship; and Michi Smith poses with a group upon sharing her story. Grit worked as the key factor behind Violette, Gasca, and Smith’s outstanding accomplishments. “Even if I had more time to do my work, I probably wouldn't be as successful in school without curling competitively, because I feel like I wouldn't have as much drive, motivation and grit,” said junior Luc Violette.

Kasey Romero, Jada Christiansen, Sarah Mulvey, and Nikki Osbjornsen gather at lunch and represent some of the students who are integrating themselves into general education classes. Teachers in this branch of the educational system have worked hard to help them gain more opportunities. “I hope to help them just like I would like any other gen ed kid. By giving them the opportunities to make choice in their life. Say that they make a choice and it doesn’t work out, I want to make sure it’s not life threatening,” Mark Dalbeck said.

Students are preparing for the upcoming Talent Show on Tuesday, March 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the PAC. A Talent Show panel screened the acts during an audition process. “Auditions were great. There's a lot of talent here at Lake Stevens in other areas not just one spot. I'm really happy that they'll have their time to shine too. We have 18 performers. There's so much variety and so much talent that if you don't go, you're really missing out. Come listen, watch, and get entertained,” said Macabalo.
