Counseling Center: Check in with the receptionist at the large window into the office where the counselor offices are in the hallway. The office was designed to be visible and accessible for every student. “We’re more visible now, being in this hallway, and there’s that window...Being more visible, I think it helps,” mental health support specialist Jennifer Hudson said.

There are nearly 5 million people in Washington alone that are fully vaccinated! The number of people fully vaccinated rapidly increased in a span of only a month and a half, by around 1,204,885, according to Our World Data as of October 25, 2021. The current number of vaccinations has reached approximately 4.8 million. Yet, its too soon to tell how COVID-19 will effect Holiday gatherings, says Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of NIAID.

September album releases: Arts & Entertainment Editor Cameron Smutz is bringing a music review column to the Valhalla in which he will talk about his thoughts on new albums each month. Smutz describes and praises some of his favorite releases of September such as Injury reserve and Little Simz. Regarding By The Time I Get To Phoenix by Injury reserve, junior Caleb Cumberledge said, “I definitely think that it can also bring a lot of emotion in a weird sense too in the album because its able to compel a bunch of emotional feeling in such a unique and different way than most other music has been able to in a long time.”

Gender dysphoria: A study conducted by Cedars-Sinai in which adult transgender individuals were surveyed found that most transgender individuals experienced gender dysphoria in their developmental years. Lake Stevens School District Policy 5590 aims to make transgender youth comfortable and safe at school. “Its probably going to ruffle some feathers and cause some waves in our community, and I would say that based on the response to our last policy five years ago, I think our district is ready for this,” counselor Angelia Riebli said.

Lake Stevens School Board passes Gender-Inclusive Schools policy

Policy NO. 5590, adopted by the school district Aug. 25 2021 will expand the protection and rights of transgender individuals in the District.

Coming to Theaters: The Valhalla is creating a recurring column to showcase new movies coming in theaters and recommendations that students might enjoy. As Covid is calming down, movies are slowly resurrecting back to theaters, with October releases such as Dune (2021) and Halloween Kills (2021). “I’m so excited that movies are back in theaters,” sophomore Anjieli Fairbanks said.
