Wrestlers stand strong and practice hard to make their way to State
Win or lose the wrestlers still find what really matters during a match

Senior Gino Loera stands ready against his opponent. As a team the wrestlers have struggled in dual meets, but are focused to be prepared for State. “The coaches and everything will really build you up as a wrestler…But the coaches can’t do it all. It really takes all the kids on the team to go out of their way and bring new kids in and actually support each other,” senior Jake Douglas said.
Set up on the path to the state tournament at the Tacoma Dome for yet another year is the Vikings Wrestling Team. They are now 6-3 and are moving forward with confidence. With the season coming to an end, almost everyone believes that they have outstanding chances at running for the State Championships.
Though the team is strong and well rounded they still have their challenges. They took a loss to Jackson, with a final score of 37-38 on January 21.
“We’re doing pretty good as a team, but I think we should toughen up on the inside…toughen up all around,” senior Gino Loera said.
However, what really keeps the team in good spirits is the audience full of their family and peers. Working hard and getting that experience of winning with everyone cheering is the exhilaration that any sports player wants to feel.
“[Wrestling] is a sport that will make you work and it’s miserable doing it…but it’s just you out there and when you win it’s just amazing, especially with your home crowd and your school supporting you like [they do],” senior Jake Douglas said.
Their next match is January 28 on Vashon Island. Cheer the team on and help them keep their heads up for State.
