Don’t let community service sit on the back burner

Students need to step up their game for the end of the year

With the school year coming to a close, community service hours have a way of creeping up on students.  Few have thought about this major requirement for the end of the year even though it is one of the most important, especially for seniors, to graduate.

“I get my community service hours by planting trees around local Washington streams. Not only is it fun and a good workout, but it also preserves Washington watersheds, therefore preserving Washington State’s salmon population. I am set up currently for two planting events away from 45 hours, so I’m basically set for the year,” senior Elijah Foltz said in regards to the fact that he is time crunching for his hours.

If in need of hours then travel to computer room 107 to where The Community Service Board has been moved. Opportunistic programs currently posted include: watching kids during PTA meetings at Glenwood and Hillcrest, Ludus Youth Theatre, Lil’ Hungry Hearts, Sound Salmon Solutions, Youth United, Clothes for Kids, Lake Stevens Food Bank, YMCA, Adopt a Stream Foundation, and the Class of 2016 Auction. Possibly more will be available before the due dates for Community Service Hours come around.
