Fall Sport Collective
As the fall season closes, the Vikings on the girls’ soccer team brought home the championship trophy. Each fall sport at LSHS made a showing in the postseason competition.
Girls Soccer
LSHS Girls Soccer claimed the state title against Woodinville, winning 1-0. Leading up to the championship game, they clinched their title of undefeated WESCO CHAMPS and made their way to Districts. The girls finished third at Districts. Their first state game was on Nov. 13, where they beat Richland 2-0. Moving on to the quarter-finals, they played Skyline on Saturday, Nov.16, and managed a thrilling 3-2 victory. This is the first time in years that the girls´ soccer team made it to the semi-finals! They faced off against Issaquah on Nov. 22 and won 1-0. They are the first girls’ team in school history for any sport to win a state championship.
Girls Volleyball
Huge shout-out to the girls´ volleyball team for winning WESCO. Their final game against Glacier Peak secured their place in Districts, where they dominated Mount Si with a 3-0 win. They also took down Eastlake 3-1 and won Districts against Issaquah with a score of 3-1. The team is seeded 4th and is ready to play Tahoma in the first round of the volleyball tournament at Yakima Sundome on November 22nd. The girls lost 2-3 against Curtis in the semi-finals in state. They played against Wenatchee to determine third and fourth place. They lost 0-3. Girls’ volleyball placed 4th overall in state.
Football
The Viking football team battled this year, finishing as CO-WESCO CHAMPS alongside Arlington and Glacier Peak, in a three-way tie. They secured the sixth seed in the postseason thanks to their high-point total. Their playoff opener game on Saturday, Nov. 16, against Mead, was nothing short of epic; they won 52-49 in a nail-biting game. Going into the quarter finals their overall record was 8-3 in Washington 4A. The team traveled to Pasco to play at Edgar Brown Stadium against Chiawana on Nov. 23. They competed Saturday and lost to Chiawana 48-21. Their loss brought their season to a close.
Girls Swim and Dive
The swim and dive team crushed it this season, winning WESCO and becoming WESCO North Champions. They performed well at Districts and made it to state. Their first competition took place from Nov. 14-16 at the King County Aquatics Center. Jessica Garingo, Gracie Young, Gwen Werner, Nagi Kimura, and Bella Martin advanced to the state meet. Lake Stevens got a time of 2:03.31 on the 200 freestyle. Kimura in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.55 and Werner in the 500 freestyle had a time of 5:57.60. In the Lake Stevens 200 freestyle relay the girls (Ainsley Miller, Mercer Allen, Bowen, Gesick) got a time of 2:00.14 and for the 400 freestyle (Miller, Werner, Martin, Allen) relay a time of 4:35.35.
Cross Country
Lake Stevens Vikings boys and girls cross country teams made it to state and Ares Van Stratten placed seventh. On the girls´ side, Hallie Caroll and Reagan Rich represented us well, while the boys´ team featuring top ten finisher Van Stratten, Weston Breen, Tate Broadbent, Caden Fure, Peter Lasley, Kyle Schwenke, Tavion Siu, Owen Stults and Tucker Turner. Chasing the finish line, our cross-country team runs to victory.
Boys Tennis
The Lake Stevens tennis team worked hard to qualify for Districts and made it. The competitors who fought hard were Caiden Bernstein, Andrew Hein, George Lapin, Peter Lapin, Owen Packard, and Saahith Vangala. On day two of the Districts matches, Bernstein, Hein, and Lapin stood out and made it through. Their overall was 4-11 and 3-9 in the league. Shout out to all the players for their hard work!
Cheer
Our cheer team has showcased their hard work, dedication, and lively spirits at sporting events this fall season! They brought energy to the sidelines, rallies and state send-off, and supported all of our teams with incredible performances. They put in hours of practice to pull off stunts, chants and routines with perfection. The cheerleaders created a positive and fun atmosphere at every game. Their commitment to the football team should not be overlooked as they travel alongside them to every football game no matter how far. Thank you for all your support this season!
