The Lake Stevens Football team finished the regular season with a winning record of 7-1 and 3-0 in the district. The only team they lost to was West Linn, #1 ranked school in Oregon.
Senior Bryce Slezak and junior Jashon Limar are on the varsity football team at Lake Stevens High School and were part of the state championship team last year. Slezak was out for three weeks following a concussion. Last year, Slezak suffered a concussion during wrestling season and a high ankle sprain. Limar has been dealing with multiple injuries including a torn labrum, and last season he had a series of season-ending knee injuries. Limar returned for the last regular season game against Glacier Peak High School.
The first playoff game was Saturday, Nov. 4 at LSHS. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. Lake Stevens dominated Olympia High School with a shutout, 54-0.
“I think we will make a good state run, and no matter the outcome of it just know we’re happy. We’re happy to be where we are. But everyone wants to win State and that’s the goal,” Slezak said.
A good mindset is an important aspect when trying to win a big competition such as this and perform at a high level, but so is having strong relationships with teammates.
“I feel like our team definitely needs to build a bit of a community. Like we’re all pretty close, but we don’t hang out much outside football. But I feel like if we get that brotherhood going, we can make it to state again… Lake is looking good this year. Let’s go win state,” Limar said.
The Vikings continue their pursuit of another state championship.
