Super League could become the future of soccer as we know it. “I think it’s a terrible idea and will ruin the integrity of soccer,” senior Tanner Jordan said.

In Spain, Florentio Perez the president of Real Madrid is attempting to form a European Super League. Perez planned on taking 12 of the largest teams in Europe and forming another league. These clubs include Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspurs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Inter Milan, and AC Milan. These clubs would be torn from their respective leagues and they would not be allowed to play in any other European tournaments. The players from these clubs would also not be allowed to represent their countries by playing for their national teams.

Local soccer fans have their own thoughts and opinions on the matter.

“I don’t feel too strongly about it. I feel like it’s just the bigger clubs trying to make more money,” sophomore Mason Gasparini said. Gasparini is hoping that these dark plans are not the future reality of the game he loves.

With this news, fans have been very upset and disheartened by their favorite clubs. Protests and riots have broken out across Europe in protest of the Super League. Fans have been claiming how this will ruin the game they love and it is being stolen by the rich for money.

“I think people are just going to stop tuning in,” junior Cody Gundry said. Gundry believes that the power of the fans will work together to not watch the Super League as a way to protest against it.

Perez along with some of these club executives believes that soccer needs to be brought back to life.
“Without the Super League, football will die before 2024. Big and small clubs will die,” Perez stated in a press conference.

“Soccer will not die without the Super League. It wasn’t dying in the first place. They have just made an assumption about that and made a statement as an alibi so they can make more money,” senior Tanner Jordan.

As of right now, some of the teams involved are attempting to pull away from the Super League in hopes to keep the football world together. Clubs are beginning to realize football is nothing without their fans.
