As girls tennis started in March, the end of the season is coming up quickly, and the girls have already made some strong connections with each other and the game.
“As a team, we have bonded greatly through team dinners and our group chat,” senior Molly Duffy said.
On any sports team, personal growth is something that every athlete strives for. Knowing that they can be even better than they already are is motivation to be great for themselves and their team.
“My net skills. I’ve gotten a lot better at being able to hit winners over the net. But my serves could be a little better,” senior Ryden Powers said.
Most of the team is made up of new girls with some to little experience with playing tennis, this being their first season on the Lake Stevens team. But, as the season progresses, they are showing improvement and growth personally, as a team and even a duo.
For some girls, the game isn’t played alone, but with a partner. The connection between two players is key in doubles tennis and can be the heart of the game.
“I mostly play doubles most of the time with my teammate, Chloe Bernstein. We have been playing together since the beginning of the season and have definitely learned about how each other plays to improve our game together. Communication is key for us on the court to make adjustments to improve our game,” Duffy said.
With on and off wins, the girls need to make adjustments to succeed this season. By making personal plans and team bonding, the commitment of these girls can go a long way. The girls have known each other from past seasons and as personal friends. Bonding with each other on the court builds a strong team.
“We have these purple bows that we always put in our hair, and then we have our big team chant, which I’m sure, if you’re anywhere outside when we’re doing it, you can hear us because we’re actually pretty loud,” Powers said.
The Vikings have 3 games until WESCO matches and then it’s off the district.
