Over winter break, our own Lake Stevens Boys Basketball team made a trip to Yakima at the SunDome, scrimmaging against Davis High School and Lakewood High School on the second day. The Vikings went 0-2, but to them it didn’t feel like they lost because they played against two very difficult teams. LSHS lost to Davis in overtime by two points, the boys put in the work, but couldn’t get that win.
According to MaxPreps Davis High School is ranked 6th in 4A and Lakewood High School is ranked 11th in 2A.
“We played Davis who is ranked sixth in the state and we only lost by two, so that was good. They underestimated us a little bit and we showed up,” junior Gabe Allinson said.
Junior Brian Tilghman, one of the captains, had been in a little bit of a rough patch coming straight out of football and getting right into basketball. But he found his groove and hit a three-point shot to put it into overtime which was huge for the team.
This team’s chemistry enhances their communication during more difficult games. This leads to more success, achieving their goals more efficiently and creatively.
“I mean communication is key, especially in basketball to know your job and do it right. You can’t do anything by yourself, so you have to make sure everybody is on the same page on the court,” Tilghman said.
Overall, playing these two teams showed Lake Stevens Boys Basketball real game. Coach Iverson also said he was proud of the team, and yes, there were little mistakes here and there, but they played their best.
“Daniel Ngezaho came on the Lakewood game out of an injury and played really well against Lakewood, I think he was our leading scorer in that game, around 17-19 points he made. He played really well,” Iverson said.
The players continue to push their limits, striving for excellence and leaving it all on the court.
