Boys and Girls Track and Field
The boys and girls track team will kick off their season against cross town rival Monroe High School March 20, aiming to defend their turf. The track and field team has been promising for the past couple of years sending many athletes to the state tournament.
Lake Stevens will bring many veterans in both track and field who plan to lead by example. In the track portion, senior Ares Van Straaten (CWU commit). According to athletic.net
he ran an outstanding time of 1:56 having the best 800m on the team.
“I’ll definitely be a good leader and lead by example by just doing the right things to show the underclassmen what the standard is at Lake Stevens High School,” Van Straaten said.
For the team’s Field portion, we have multi-sport athlete junior Keira Tupua who placed fourth place in both discus and shot put in the state meet, throwing a PR of 39’3.5” in shot put and another PR in discus throwing an outstanding throw of 126′ 6″.
“The impact that I’m trying to make with this year’s team is to just be a role model to underclassmen and show them that it’s okay to have fun and stay focused at the same time,” Tupua said.
Baseball
Baseball will kick off their season by hosting Marysville Pilchuck High School on March 13 at 4:30 p.m., setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting and competitive year. Baseball is looking stronger than ever, with multiple athletes committing to colleges this winter, signaling a promising future for the program.

Last season, the team finished with a record of 10 wins and 12 losses, posting a .445 win percentage. After the tough season last year, they are amped to get started and compete for that state championship everyone’s been waiting for. Star player and team captain Julian Wilson (EVCC commit) had an outstanding individual season, finishing with a team-high .432 batting average.
“The impact I want to make is to be a leader on and off the field. Our goal is to win another Wesco title and show both our league and the entire state that they should be paying attention to Lake Stevens. We have a lot of talent this year, and we’re hungry for success,” Wilson said.
Lacrosse
Although the Lake Stevens Lacrosse Club isn’t an official school sport, their players are students at LSHS. The lacrosse team will make their way west to play in the Boise Invitational,
Lacrosse has been a growing program planning to soon or later spring and this season might be it.
Captain senior Resor committed to the University of Montana Grizzlies and plans to make a big impact as soon as he gets on campus.
Resor would join the team and become a force to be reckoned with, ending last season with 37 ground balls creating turnovers to create more opportunities for the offence, the second most on the team. I asked what we can expect from him and his team this upcoming season.
“You can definitely expect our first playoff in and then expect that we are gonna make it to state and you know compete in state or even win it,” Resor said.
Fastpitch Softball
Softball will host Roosevelt on March 10 at 4 p.m. That being said, softball has definitely become one of Lake Stevens’ powerhouse teams, finishing last season with an impressive record of 16 wins and 6 losses. Their playoff run, however, was cut short after a tough loss to league rival Glacier Peak, followed by another loss to North Creek, a dominant team from the King-Co league.

Despite the early exit, Lake Stevens softball is determined to bounce back stronger than ever and make a run for the state championship this year. Senior Charlie Pugmire (pitcher), who is eyeing her second state title this school year, is leading the charge. Pugmire finished the season with stellar stats. According to maxpreps.com she has an ERA of 0.94, ranking in the top 5 in Washington for that category.
”The impact I want to make is to just be a leader for the underclassmen and something that fans can expect from me this season is that I’ll play at 100% and for the team you can best believe that we will win our conference,” Pugmire said.
Boys soccer
The soccer team will play Cascade High School on March 18 at Memorial Stadium in Everett. Last year, boys soccer finished their season with a 12-5-1 record. The soccer team made it to the state tournament round and ended their season in the opening round against third-ranked Sumner High School.
This season, the soccer team is seeking revenge and are starving for that state championship trophy. Star dual sport athlete junior Lucas Mooring (forward) is focused on being that leader and person everyone can trust.
“Personally I want to score at least 15 goals and get first team all-WESCO and all-area for the second straight year. For my team goals this season the goal is to make it to state again and progress further this year,” Mooring said.
Golf

Last year, the golf teams were powerhouses. During the 2024 season, golf brought two to state and two alternates for two alternates to bring it home.
“I personally would like to break par on 18 holes and something that you can expect from us golfers this season is just to be a good person because we have the highest responsibility in the school. We project what our school looks like to other schools, other parents and other organizations,” Ament responded.
After speaking with Ament he truly shows the leader he really is. He’s the true definition of what it’s like to be a Vikings at LSHS.
We look for a strong showing from the girls team as well.
Girls Tennis
Last year the girls tennis team ended their season with a positive record of 8 wins and 5 losses. The tennis team is set to host WESCO 3A power house Snohomish high school on March 17th at 3:30. Lake stevens will have a tough challenge, but they are prepared to rise to the occasion. The team is aiming for a stellar season and is ready to make a statement to the state that they are here to compete and ace the competition.
