Swinging into a new addition
Marvel added their newest movie, Spider-Man; No Way Home.
Spoilers of the movie will be discussed in the following article.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (NWH), has left its mark at a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has grossed $1.53 billion worldwide, making this the eighth highest grossing movie ever at the global box office.
NWH continues on from where the last movie Far From Home leaves off-Peter Parker’s secret identity as Spider-Man being revealed to the whole world. The death of Mysterio leaves people confused about what actually happened that day in London. However, after Peter Parker reveals himself as Spider-Man, the tables start to turn, and people now go against him.
Spoilers of the movie were spread around the globe, saying that old characters from either the original series or other Spider-Mans were going to be playing a role in NWH. That fact indeed turned out to be true.
“[NWH] paid tribute to a lot of old Marvel movies that people really loved. And they really paid attention to what the fans wanted,” senior Riley Prescott said.
It is true that the new Spider-Man has brought back some of our favorites; Daredevil, Dr. Otto Octavius, Electro, Ned Leeds, Flash Thompson and let’s not forget former Spider-Man actors; Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. Making this an exciting movie to watch.
Fans were worried, however, the possibility of oversaturation of superheroes. The thought of having all three Spider-Man’s in the movie, along with Dr. Strange and rumors of Daredevil in the film, could overwhelm the movie itself. That wasn’t true at all. The movie accurately separated and dispersed the characters widely throughout so it didn’t feel so overwhelming. Putting all three Spider-Mans’ in their own section, along with the villains in another section until they all come together for the big scene.
“My first reactions to the movie were both happy and sad. It was very surreal and nostalgic to see all of the Spider-Men and past villains that I grew up watching,” senior Jessica Rojas Cruz said.
NWH could be a possible game-changer for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Fans have wondered how Marvel will ever be able to top a movie like Avengers: Endgame; with a gross of $2.5 billion. Although, the finale of Loki and the introduction of the multiverse, suggests how many possibilities there truly are.
This was definitely a new opportunity for MCU. With NWH, coming into the collection, it did become one of the top movies on my list, for sure. This is the first movie to truly explore outside of the multiverse, and Spider-Man was the perfect way to do so.
Towards the ending of No Way Home, Dr. Strange casts a spell that erases Peter Park from everyone’s memory. Questions have been brought up; Did this affect Peter’s technology? Did E.D.I.T.H. and the Iron Spider Suit get affected by this?
“Edith was offline because they shut down Stark Industries and his (Peter Parker’s) iron spider suit was transformed into his newest suit so it no longer has that crazy technology anymore. But if that wasn’t the case then I would say no, it wouldn’t affect his tech because it (the technology) doesn’t have a brain,” senior Reilly Bowers said.
While this all may be somewhat true, we do know Marvel has a way at giving the audience the least expected. Yes, none of that technology has a brain, so it shouldn’t affect them. But questions are rising, what if they did? Would Spider-Man be an actual hero without his technology? In the next Spider-Man movie, will Stark Industries make a return, or will Peter Parker’s technology remember him afterall?
