Do you enjoy reading? If so, read some books specifically for fall. Everyone has a specific genre or stories they gravitate to when reading, but it can be fun and festive to curate seasonal reading
Scary and creepy books are a great way to bring in the Halloween season. So many people love scary movies, so why not books? A haunted house ghost story is an absolute classic, a must-read story.
Sophomore Lillian Auderer expressed a love for a few scary books she’s read in the past month.
“I like paranormal and suspenseful,” Auderer said.
The books Auderer listed range in subject from haunted house to cannibalism, it all depends on what you’re looking for. Auderer enjoyed a book titled The Haunting of Ashburn House.
The story follows a girl named Adrienne who inherits her great-aunt’s home after she dies. The book follows Adrienne as she explores the mansion and begins to get an uneasy feeling about the whole situation.
“It’s just a good haunted house story,” Auderer said.
The school’s library is a great resource to use to access all the scary stories you could want and other genres as well.
“So, it tends to be the horror and paranormal that get checked out this time of year,” Librarian Kit Shanholtzer said.
Shanholtzer also commented that Steven King is an extremely popular author being checked out constantly this time of year. His books such as It are extremely popular around Halloween.
Books seem to be a great way to get into the fall mood; there’s something out there for everyone.
Anne of Green Gables is a wonderful book for this time of year. It’s calm and such a nice book to cuddle up with under a blanket and read all day while it’s chilly outside. It has the fall spirit people want and crave this time of year.
If you’d like a more magical book for fall, The Night Circus is a great choice; it has the witchy magical elements that are so signature to Halloween, without it being terrifying. It’s a calmer fantasy while still being fun and entertaining for readers.
