Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the United States Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district. Cortez was born into a hardworking Puerto Rican family and grew up in the Bronx. 

Cortez’s work ethic and drive set her up for success when running for the representative position. As a part of the working class, Cortez recognizes the needs of the common people. What makes Cortez stand out from other politicians is her involvement and connection to her community.

In light of women’s history month, it is fitting to include statements from Cortez on the issue of sexism in politics. 

”While I know that women tend to be made responsible for the actions of every man in the room, I am not. After ten years of failed leadership, we have lost 1,000 Democratic seats nationwide. We have lost the House, we have lost the Senate, we have lost the Presidency. And it would be a profound mistake if we believe that the same leadership getting us into this mess is gonna get us out,” Cortez said.
