Change is in the air! 4-Star Lake Stevens running back Jayden Limar ditched Notre Dame on signing day to commit to the University of Oregon. The Ducks welcomed a notable five players who decommited from opposing schools and will call Eugene, OR home next year.
Limar had previously committed to the University of Notre Dame on May 26, 2022. From the onset, it had appeared that Limar had no intention of leaving. Notre Dame also offered a scholarship to younger brother Jayshon Limar, which everyone thought was in an effort to show that South Bend was building a long lasting commitment to the Limar family. But clearly things were misinterpreted because as signing day came around on Dec. 21, the community of Lake Stevens had expected Jayden to be signing green and gold papers. But Limar surprised everyone by announcing in an interview with CBS Sports that he would be “going to the University of Oregon”.
“They are building such an amazing program…and the coaching staff made it clear to me I was prioritized and cared about here. Not to mention the distance from home is so much easier, not only for me but also for my family,” Limar stated.
Limar had aspirations to stay close to home during his entire recruiting process, and the staff at Oregon made his decision easy.
Limar wasted no time in making the switch as soon as possible. Limar committed to Oregon on Dec. 21, 2023. Limar had been earning his high school credits through the first semester at an advanced rate, in plans to graduate early and move to Indianapolis in early January. But Limar’s flip to Oregon didn’t put a dent in his plans. He packed his belongings and left for Eugene on Jan. 6, 2023. Currently, he is attending minimal classes at the University of Oregon, while beginning his training with the team to build a bond early.
“Moving in was easy, but getting adjusted has definitely been pretty hard for me It’s a lot different than being at home in high school. The Oregon football staff has done a great job welcoming me though,” Limar expressed.
Fans are hopeful that Limar will find success in Oregon, especially given the amount of time he has to learn the system and settle in with his new team. Now all of Lake Stevens awaits for Limar to see the field this season, waiting to cheer on the hometown hero.
But the city of Lake Stevens still holds a large piece of the Limar talent, in the form of his brother. Sophomore Jayshon Limar has made a name for himself in the city of Lake Stevens. Jayshon played behind Jayden during his freshman and sophomore seasons. Jayshon has already received multiple scholarship offers from Division I schools such as Arizona, Arizona State, Washington State, Notre Dame, and his older brother’s new home, Oregon. With two more seasons as a Viking, Jayshon has time to improve his skills.
Jayshon looks to make a large impact on this community, the same as his brother did before him. Although Jayshon is the same age, if not younger than most of his teammates, he is going to have to lead them next season to find success.
His new offensive line that takes the field in front of him will include one returning starter from last season’s roster. As a veteran varsity player, there is no question that Jayshon has the talent to get the job done, and everyone awaits for next season to see how he can pull the defending state championship team together, to hopefully repeat in 2023.
