I really need some time off school, and hiking, it's the best way to spend time," junior Jake Burleigh said.

March is almost over, leaves are changing colors, and the air is becoming warmer. Spring is in and the moment most waited is coming: Spring Break is knocking at the high school doors!

After months of books, sad rainy days and winter storms, one week of absolute rest is what students need. No more alarms set, early curfews at night or homework. It’s time to relieve the stress!

Most families take the chance of going out of town to spend days under the sunshine, with warm weather, shorts and sandals, to feel some summer vibes in the air.

For those who are not off to anywhere and have planned to spend all break on the couch watching Netflix, here are some fun ideas for students who are taking a on stay-cation rather than a vacation.

Take a hike

Tie your shoes and get ready to go adventuring in the nature to see the most beautiful natural places of Washington State. Students will get exercise and explore a new area and take in some fresh air. Wallace Falls Trail is a short hike, located on one side of the Cascade Mountains, where students can admire beautiful waterfalls and have a picnic at the bottom falls. Also worthy of hiking is the Robe Canyon Historic Trail. Not too far from Granite Falls, it is a mile-long trail for a breathtaking view of the Robe Canyon.

Have a picnic

Students can make their favorite meals, grab a tablecloth, beverages and go to one of their favorite parks with their friends. It’s ideal spending time outdoors, listening to music, playing or just gossiping.

Activities around the lake

If students don’t want to go too far away from Lake Stevens, Lundeen Park is the right place to go. Paddleboards and kayaks can be rented from Paddle Broz to row in the lake, take sunshine and have an amazing time.

Seattle

Sightseeing in Washington State’s largest city will never be boring. Students should explore it, there are always some places which they haven’t gone yet. Maybe it’s a new cafe, a park or exhibit at the local museum. For fun activities, hop on a kayak and paddle around Lake Union. Local facilities make renting very easy and quite inexpensive. If students don’t want to stay in the water, a great option is riding a bike around Alki Beach Park, a long beach strip which attracts rollerbladers, bicyclists and sunbathers to enjoy the sun.

Jog or bike outside

If weather permits, a good way to spend time is by getting outside and jogging around the neighborhood, listening to a favorite playlist or dusting off their own bike and riding it until their legs get tired.

Read a book

Pick a book you have always wanted to read and take time for yourself to relax and keep your mind active.

Time to stay with friends

Have a movie marathon with a bunch of your closest friends, snacks and blankets. Pick your favorite movies and stay up all night watching them. Spring break is the best time to go sleep over at your friend’s house, go shopping together or have a date out for a good meal.
